Richmond Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association

Frequently Asked Questions

Who we are: The Richmond Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association (“RFCPA”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with Fibroyalgia and other forms of Chronic Pain. We are staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers, most of whom are people with fibromyalgia and/or other chronic pain conditions, and without whom none of our work would be possible.

Where we are: As an organization, we have our roots firmly planted in Metropolitan Richmond, Virginia. However, with our web presence, we are able to reach out to anyone, anywhere, who wants to be a part of the work we do and the support we offer.

What we do: RFCPA has a number of outreach activities, the most well-known of which is the Richmond Fibromyalgia Support Group. The Support Group meeting schedule can be found on the home page of this website. The schedule is subject to change from time to time – the most up-to-date schedule can be found at www.meetup.com/richmondfibrosupport.  In addition to the support group, RFCPA partners with other local organizations to provide educational materials, workshops, and other forums where members can talk to others and receive support, feedback, and information. We also actively work on issues of importance to chronic pain patients, such as issues surrounding the use of various pain medications for the treatment of chronic pain.

Why we are: You will find much of the information we have is available on this website. However, there is really no substitute for face-to-face contact with other human beings who share the issues and challenges which you face every day as a person with chronic pain. No one can come to every meeting, but those who attend regularly can testify to the benefits of simply sharing your questions, concerns, and even fears with people to whom you never have to explain yourself – because we already know many of the issues and challenges you live with – we live with them too!

How we’re funded: RFCPA is a non-profit, and as such, qualifies for tax-deductible donations under IRS law. All donations are gratefully accepted, and donations from our members are the primary funding stream at this time. We never, ever, want anyone to miss out on the support we offer because they cannot afford to make a donation. People from all walks of life are welcome, and no one should ever feel “obligated” to contribute to our work. However, for those who are able, we appreciate your support and your generosity, without which we could not continue to do what we do.
