About Us

The Richmond Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating and executing programs designed to improve the quality of life for people with fibromyalgia.

The Richmond Fibromyalgia Support Group began in 2003, when one person with fibromyalgia reached out via the Internet, looking for others who shared her need to connect with people who would understand the challenges of living with chronic pain. From that point forward the group grew slowly, changing leadership from time to time, but remained a constant resource for people needing  support in the Richmond area.

In 2007, with 39 members registered, the group again changed leadership, meetings were added and rescheduled, and the locations changed to make meetings more accessible to more people with chronic pain.

Today, the group has approximately 600 registered members, and offers four daytime meetings, and one evening meeting each month.  Most meetings are discussion meetings where the conversation ranges from doctors and treatments to communicating with family and friends about fibromyalgia, and any other topic on the minds of those attending the meeting.

Some meetings are speaker meetings, and previous speakers have presented a wide variety of topics as diverse as nutrition, acupuncture, massage, medication, disability claims, psychological issues, and more. The speakers are chosen for their expertise in a given area, and the topics are chosen from the many suggestions gathered from members.

Some meetings are purely “social” so that members can interact more freely and get to know each other.

Our group is as good as our members, which makes it awesome. Come check us out—we’re here for you!
